xmas drabble 2025; (Not the Cloud Gift, But a Second, Lovier Thing)

"He called it 'the Cloud Gift,'" she explains. "Said it couldn't be taught. Stop anytime, of course. Just nice to have a recording."

It was easy, rigging a frame from scrap leather, paste, and knotted twine, measured to specification by two cooperating perfectionists. The Leaf fits neatly. Loops fit around Bartimaeus’ talons. As a raptor, he can carry heavier than this.

(She's never asked anyone to carry her. Saw how that shit went.)

Over the video, her laughter pierces the roaring wind. When he dives, she gasps. Her silence is pensive, as he glides smoothly toward the radiant sunset.
